Utilities for accountants, solicitors, estate agents and consultancies

Professional firms run on phones, broadband and a well-kept office, and most carry insurance that their regulator or clients require. We look after the utilities behind the practice and introduce you to FCA-authorised partner brokers for the cover.

Insurance your profession may require

Solicitors. The SRA requires firms to hold qualifying insurance with a participating insurer. The minimum for each claim is £3 million for recognised bodies and licensed bodies, such as LLPs and companies, and £2 million in other cases, such as sole practitioners and partnerships.

Accountants. Under ICAEW’s professional indemnity regulations in force from 1 October 2026, firms with gross fee income under £800,000 need a minimum limit of two and a half times that income, with a floor of £250,000; other firms need at least £2 million.

Estate agents. Belonging to an approved redress scheme is a legal requirement for anyone doing residential estate agency work in the UK.

We do not advise on regulatory compliance. We introduce you to FCA-authorised partner brokers who arrange the cover; your regulator’s rules always come first.

Points that catch firms out

Employers’ liability for small firms

It is compulsory once you employ staff, with at least £5 million cover. A company whose only employee is the owner holding 50% or more of the shares is exempt.
